About honey plant
Stevia rebaudiana, one of the most sweetest and beneficial plants on earth, native to Paraguay, is a small green plant bearing leaves with a delicious and refreshing taste that can be 30 times sweeter than sugar. The sweetness in Stevia is mainly attributed to two compounds viz Stevioside and Rebaudioside A. These glycosides of Stevia leaves are 150 times sweeter than sugar of equal quantity.

The leaves have been traditionally used for hundreds of years in Paraguay and Brazil to sweeten teas and medicines around the world. In Japan 70 % of the people have been using only Stevia instead of white sugar for their table usage. For the past three decades, Stevia has been used in Japan as the main alternative to sugar instead of aspartarne in diet soda, gum and other food and beverages.

Stevia in any form, is reported not to adversely affect blood glucose level or insulin, and may be used in those with diabetic. Stevia is also used as a sweetener in other countries. After extensive studies have proved that STEVIA is safe. Stevia provides several advantages over sugar and artificial sweeteners when used in food production. It also costs less for transportation, storage/warehousing and handling charges.

In 2006. the World Health Organization evaluated Stevia and found positive benefits of Stevioside and Rebaudioside A. for all age groups. It is also reported that Stevioside had beneficial effects in patients with hypertension or with type-2diabetes.

The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has concluded that it has no objection to STEVIA (Rebaudioside A) at 95% purity or above having GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status as general purpose sweetener for foods and drinks not just as supplement - Indian Food Industry— (Nov— Dec2008)
